FA’s Indirect systems utilize the Fire Detection Tubing as a detector and system actuation device. The Indirect systems are ideal for larger volumes or for hazards that are external to a vehicle, where quick detection and delivery of the fire suppressing agent are required. Such systems have been designed for use in engine compartments, fuel tanks, wheels and tires. The FDT is routed in and around hazard areas. When the FDT detects a fire the tubing triggers the extinguisher which in turn discharges the extinguishing agent through a fixed distribution system. Such Indirect systems have passed external fire testing at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, have passed MIL-STD-810 testing, and are currently installed on a number of military ground vehicles.
